Cricket has known to begin sometime during the 16th century. It is a game of bat and pads. Matches of international cricket started somewhere about 1844, with international test cricket following some 33 years later. Originated in England, cricket is now played in just about all of the Commonwealth Nations. There are several type of matches played, including test, 20/20, The Ashes, and one-day cricket in which both teams have their turn to bat and field, and complete the match in one day. The World Cup has become one of the most widely watched matches in cricket today.

Cricket Equipment, just like the playing field and the players, is essentially a must for the game to be played. There was very little knowledge of cricket equipment in the beginning years of the game. When gambling became a major factor in cricket, clubs were formed and so was the need for cricket equipment. Today, there are many manufacturers and marketers of all types and kinds of cricket equipment.

Getting and staying fit is very important in achieving success in the game of cricket, just like any other sport. In the former years of cricket, running, doing sit-ups, stretches and the like, were regular and the basic forms of exercise. Imagine swinging a cricket bat at a ball without exercising before you play. Your muscles will hurt for about three to four days; the second day being the worst.

Although cricket was always played in North America, it had not been taken up like football or baseball. But, today there is a renewed effort to advance the sport even further. This is clearly visible in the high schools of NYC. The demand has been brought about by the emigrant population in the school system. There are already several leagues competing and I'm sure the demand for cricket equipment will only get higher.

From England to Australia, India to Pakistan, New Zealand to Sri Lanka to South Africa and the West Indies, cricket has been and will always be the pastime. From elementary school to college cricket is taught, played and enjoyed. How different types of cricket equipment and what they are used for along with the basics are always the starting point in becoming a cricketer.
